|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The Tzeeker project will result in a simplified text analysis resource for both new and experienced users but without jeopardizing the effectiveness it possesses. Tzeeker will follow the same TA principles as TAPoR, but at the same time will provide a ready and available resource for users of any level of experience. It will minimize initial interaction and instead determine appropriate TA actions to take based on the text entered.
Objectives | ||||||||
| Changed: | ||||||||

To experiment with a simple one-field-one-button interface that can introduce users to text analysis. To provide a “one field does all” site in which users can analyze text in a variety of different forms with a variety of analytical tools. Ultimately, to provide a smart text analysis site that incorporates a variety of TA tools and eliminates initial confusion surrounding the site’s existence and capabilities. | |||||||

Three page designs were considered for the look of Tzeeker's final interface. Because Design (1) featured a set of complex graphical elements including modestly rounded corners and a colour gradient on title bars, it was decided that Design (1) was not realistically employable. Eventually, Design (1) was eliminated, and Design (3) was chosen between the two that remained based on the partiality for warm over cool colours. | |||||||

Because the subject of text analysis is not one that necessarily goes hand in hand with art, page design for a TA site can be somewhat restricting with respect to artistic expression. However, the future of Tzeeker may see some elements from the following interface concepts for Tzeeker II. Tzeeker’s future will undoubtedly see a wider variety of tools to run, better displays and an advanced feature that lets the user choose the tools to run. | |||||||

User 2? - Graduate student in Communication Studies who is interested in analytical methods. They want to try this out as a way of figuring out if TAPoR has anything for their research. They are interested computer game discourse, but don't have a corpus yet. User 3? - Faculty member who wants to compare student writing to other types of writing. They want to see if it can help them assess student writing and if they can learn something about youth discourse on a subject like movies. User 4? - Biology professor, editor of a journal is looking for ways to see if TA can suggest keywords for journal articles. Wants to see if dumping the article in would help him figure out what it is about User 5? - Journalist who writes a column and what to feed in source materials to get ideas. They start by feeding some of their own writings in to see what it says about them. User 6? - Employer who wants to compare writings of different public relations employees. | ||||||||||||

1. This box briefly describes what Text Seeker did to the user’s text in order to come up with the results displayed on this page. It also gives the user the option of manually selecting different types of analyses from a set of tools if they are not satisfied with the automated results.
2. If the automated results are not enough, Text Seeker also lists further tools that could also potentially be useful to the user depending on the type of text.
3. This is where the user will be able to see how Text Seeker completely analyzed their text in three different ways. The site’s intelligence picks these three tools in accordance with the type of text entered by the user.

1. This is where the Text Seeker logo will appear in the final graphic designs. The logo is a detail that will be mocked-up, critiqued, and re-designed in the latter phases of this project.
2. The browse button will allow the user to search their personal computer for any file (.doc, .txt, etc.) containing text.
3. These two buttons emphasize the importance of a simplified interface. As there are really only two options to choose from in order to advance to a new page, the user will feel a sense of comfort rather than being overwhelmed with choices.
4. The text entry box is larger than that of the archetypal search engine to indicate that more than just a few words or sentences can be pasted in.
5. These three buttons appear along the left-hand side to keep the page design fairly symmetrical and tidy. These are options a more experienced user can experiment with.
