  2. Generate a list of words related to the theme you are interest in;

  1. In this example we will use Edgar Allan Poe's Cask of Amontillado and explore it for the theme of betrayal.
  2. This text is available from Project Gutenberg.
  3. Use WordNet to generate a list of words related to the theme betrayal.
  4. Inputting betrayal you should get a list of words similar to:
    treachery, traitor, treason, perfidy, double-cross, sell-out, subversiveness, dishonesty, knavery.
  5. As we are specifically interested in the theme of betrayal, all of these words apply to our task. If we were unsure about any of the ways in which these words migh be used, we can explore word sense.
  6. To explore the theme, we will now enter each of these words as a search term and use the Find Words - Concordance Tool to see each of these words in their context.
