Plan for Virtual Tour
Purpose
- To provide tours, games or other interesting ways by which our site may engage people who otherwise have no knowledge of numismatics to take an interest in it
- Provide accessible yet informative tools to interpret the information and coins on the site
Possible Methods
- A basic chronological approach, outlining key events and individuals in Roman history while at the same time exhibiting select coins to show how these events or individuals were interpreted by the Romans themselves.
- A thematic approach. Key themes in Roman ideology and artistic representation, such as piety, martial prowess and success, dynastic succession, elite competition and state prosperity will be explored, again by using select Roman coins as illustrations of important Roman beliefs.
- A mix of the above, with certain events, people and themes being explored with select coins as examples. The focus of this approach is less to provide a coherent and extensive survey of Roman history or beliefs, but certain interesting and quirky examples which might be more accessible to younger people.
- A quiz/game to test one’s knowledge of either the coins on the site or of Roman history or both. It would likely involved ten multiple choice questions based on common themes/important events or personages contained on the website, and would also include a score out of ten.
Online Examples as Models

B) Theme-Specific
