General Problems with TAPoRware Tools
Like any work in progress these tools have problems. Please work with us and tweak us.
General Problems
- Slow Operation The tools do not use an prepared index so they are slow compared to a tool like TACTweb.
- Size of File In general you will not get a fast result with a text more than 200K - be patient. A text over 1 MG will, depending on the tool, not work at all.
- Accented Characters Accented characters will only work if you save your file in Unicode and you need to make sure your browser is set up right too. See the Add a French language Text recipe for a fuller discussion.
- Testing Many of the tools haven't been fully tested.
- Windows Files Windows accented characters will not necessarily display properly. You need to work in Unicode. See above.
- File Type Often users think their file is HTML when it is not. When in doubt use the Plain Text version and select "Treat XML/HTML as plain text" option. This will strip out the tags. We are adding tools to strip tags and we have been trying to make the tools more intelligent so they can autodetect.
- URLS that Don't Work Some URLs like http://www.mla.org/about/ don't work because the page is being generated from a database. We are looking into this, but in the meantime you can select the text paste it into a text file, save it, and then use a tool in upload mode.
