Instructions and Help
These instructions are for the
TAPoR Live CD. The
TAPoRLive CD is a complete bootable CD with Linux, the alpha version of the
TAPoR Portal and associated tools. To use, insert into a PC class machine before starting and boot from the CD.
System requirements:
PC based system with a better than 1GHz processor
512 MB or more of RAM
20x CDROM
USB or PS2 mouse
VESA compatible video card
Network:
At startup a network script will check if you have an Ethernet interface and ask if you want to use DHCP to get the network settings. If you select “yes” a standard DHCP query is sent out.
If you select “no” the script asks for standard IP address, Netmask and Gateway values. If there are any problems with the process, the script defaults to a set of standard values:
ip: 192.168.0.2
netmask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.0.1
These can be reset at any time by re-running the Network script from the menu brought up by right clicking on the desktop background with the mouse. The system is setup with a default firewall that allows all connections out but allows no connections in to the demo portal.
LDAP browser:
The LDAP browser can be used to change settings in the
OpenLDAP? database that the portal uses for authentication. It can also be accessed by right clicking on the desktop background and selecting LDAP browser' from the menu. It will give users the ability to export the Open LDAP database if they have made changes to the
TAPoRLive CD demo version that they don't want to lose.
PhpMyAdmin?:
This mySQL database administration tool has been included so as to allow a system administrator to directly manipulate data in the mySQL database. It will also give users the ability to export the mySQL database if they have made changes to the
TAPoRLive CD demo version that they don't want to lose. There is a bookmark in firefox.
To use the Portal you can log in with the account "TAPoRLive" and password "TAPoRLive". This is an alpha version of the portal so there will be bugs, missing features, and some connections that don't work on the CD version. For an account on the current version contact Lian Yan at
lyan@mcmaster.ca. Visit www.tapor.ca for more information.
TAPoRware (taporware.mcmaster.ca) and
HyperPo (hyperpo.mcmaster.ca) are both included on the CD. Click on the item in the left frame menu to experiment with them.
Shutdown:
To shut the system down you need to right click on the desktop background and select exit. This will shut the system down and eject the CD tray.
Next version:
In the next version I hope to integrate the network settings and shutdown commands into the web browser via cgi script.
