Random Ideas for JiTR

Don't trust your memory! Use this area for jotting down ideas that you don't need know, but may in the future.

  • History of actions
    • have the system track what the user is doing, so they could see a timeline of their work or, when they log on, can be reminded where they were - Mash that same user data up with a tool like Simile Timeline
  • JiTRMindmap, to help you think of concepts relating the the idea of textual mashups

(comment from PeterOrganisciak - 09 Mar 2008 18:01:30): Today I had the President of Cormex as a guest speaker. Cormex is Canada's biggest media measurement and analysis company. They don't track public opinion, but rather the media's relationship with the company.

Essentially, JiTR could be perfect for what they do. I badgered the man a bit about their collection techniques, and what they do is set up boolean searches, then print off articles, add serial numbers, and use a highlighter. Depending on uses, they uses services such as Infomart, Nexis, Factiva, etc. Essentially, this a more complex expansion of our Mandy persona. I also asked what the most frustrating thing about their data collection was, and he said that for each service, they had to tailor the searches, because each service does them differently.

So, if we imagined a user similar to this company, here's the checklist of things that would be needed

  • access to paid news archives, Lexis-Nexis and Factiva being the most urgent.
  • extra metadata, with a unique ID
  • the ability to plug in services that change JiTR (i.e. adding a new module to the edit page). So, if you have a 5-point scale for 'tone', you could integrate the item into the scale.
