RDI Meeting - December 19, 2007
Present: Geoffrey, Susan, Shawn, Stan (via Elluminate), Chin, Weiguang.
Visualization (Big See)
-
- What would visualizations look like in hi-res?
- Weiguang has video (Collocation Ring) of some ideas, using the text of the Frankenstein prologue
Document Management: Shawn's environment review
-
- DocumentManagement
- based on Susan's document as to the future of the project
- Distilled to the most important needs for the project
- TextGrid: watching the linked video is recommended
- Updated: Interedition, EU funded project from Holland
- part of this project is trying to coordinate existing projects and seeing how current tools can inform their project
- Shawn's scan isn't specifically academic; looks at a number of solutions for at private industries
Orlando Stories: Cheryl Scenario
-
- DEEPStorieS
- Suggestions
- different dashboards for different roles (i.e. same person, different role, different dashboard)
- Textual document names rather than numbers
- How can we imagine anchor notes within documents (i.e. as annotations)?
- How can we see using DEEP to support face-to-face meetings (fodder for another scenario)? How do we use the system for organizing groups?
- Proliferating notes: problematic?
- Bibliographic entry: automatic preferable to filling out?
- Notification: how much human input is required? Automatic is good, but a human can provide guidance: e.g. Cheryl can easily let Ian know what he's supposed to be doing
- Flexible milestone organization
- Dashboard needs to differentiate between notes/news and tasks/activities
- Cheryl needs to be able to prioritize tasks for herself, not by rules
*tea in the lounge (the Oh Canada)
- Orlando: next steps
- More scenarios 2 or 3 total (Ian and a new story based on administrator)
- Mockups - Stan finding grad student
JiTR
-
- issues that came up:
- accessing protected material
- WaybackMachine? (maybe we could incorporate this for users looking for old versions)
- old material: how do we extend material in time before the point of use?
- chronology: automation of date recovery
