Persona 2: Communications Studies PhD student

Aoide Eir is a PhD student in Communication Studies. She wants to look at discourse around computer games and has been pointed to Tzeeker by her professor. She is familiar with content analysis methods, but not with text analysis. She is comfortable with computers. She doesn't have a collection of sample texts to study yet.

Scenario 1:

  1. Aoide types in "Computer Games" to see what comes up.
  2. The results show a collection of suggested texts in the main panel. In the minor panels it shows Common Words and Common Themes.
  3. She wonders how the Collection is generated and reads the explanation.
  4. She tries again with more words because she really wants "video game" discourse and discourse about gender.
  5. She then looks at the new results. She clicks "More" on the Collection panel and goes through the items individually. She decides to save the Collection to her PC.
  6. She is wondering how she could add to this collection and save it online for analysis. Tzeeker tells her about the TAPoR portal which can save items and has a research log.

Scenario 2:

  1. In the list she finds a link to a site with the type of discourse she wants so she tries putting in the URL for the site.
  2. This time she gets the Common Words, Common Themes, and Key Word Tracking. She wonders what the text is that was generated and reads the Description to find out the site was scraped for 8 texts similar to what she wanted.
  3. She expands the Key Word Tracking and uses it to look at the concordances for the gendered words.
  4. She finds some interesting words and Tzeeker suggests the Collocates tool to her so she tries that to see what words collocate with her words. Neat.
  5. She gets a report in order to have quotes and links should she decide to write a paper.
