Persona 4: Senior columnist at the Haliburton Echo
Peter Rodion is a senior columnist at the Haliburton Echo newspaper. He has been writing with the Echo for over two decades but has been asked this year to help with hiring new editors. An extensive vocabulary is of high importance to Peter in terms of quality of writing. He has used Text Seeker’s Author Biography tool once before to help him learn more about the writer of an article he had read in the Ottawa Citizen and was impressed with its capabilities. He wants to know what Text Seeker can do to help him hire a new editor.
Scenario 1
- Peter refers to a list of potential editors he has written up and pastes in an article written by an editor at the top of the list
- In the results page he finds a word frequency list, results from a tool that counts the number of new words and words that have been repeated, and concordance results
- He pays close attention to the word frequency list and the difference between new and repeated words and repeats the first two steps with another potential editor’s article
- He finds that of an even 250 words in both articles, 223 words were new words (not repeated) in the first article, and 211 were new in the second
- Judging from these results, Peter makes an educated assumption that the editor of the first article has a wider vocabulary than that of the second article and decides that the editor of the first article is a better candidate for the Echo
