Meeting Notes Nov. 7, 2007

Agenda

  • Making the portal work for bibliographic references
  • The Google TAPoR idea and how to implement it

Changes to portal to support bibliography

  • Geoffrey created account called JitrTexts? in Portal to server as bibliographic repository for RDI projects
  • Date field needs to be looked at
  • Need a way for URL to be a simply a reference (like an amazon page), and not a TA target itself. It cases in the bibliographic model, URL may actually be full text, but other times will just be an amazon. Suggestion is that we need a checkbox to mark as reference only.
  • Change File Format options to add something like "Bibliographic Reference'.
  • Need to modify the 'meta' button result view to show bibliography formatted citation.

That the Portal already has capacity to export selected texts...Cool!

Do we need a way of displaying all the entries in bibliographic form?

Google TAPoR

  • The first page is the simple page
  • What buttons and look do we want?
  • We probably want a two line input box, to suggest that more than a word or phrase can be input
  • We are targeting two buttons: an "analyze this" button and a button like the "I'm feeling lucky" that suggests appropriate texts and inputs them automatically
  • These texts would give particularly good results demonstrating the tool
  • a Wheel of Texts was suggested
  • We then have three ways to go for the results page
    • We could go to HyperPo
    • We could use TAPoR Summary Like
    • We could end up on screen that gives top 10, top 10, top 10 and suggests tools with graphic outcomes < I think this is the one we like

Next Steps

  • Brad will wireframe a process
  • We will try the 'pasted text' input on the first iteration and layout the steps that would happen and what a user would see at each step

  • James wants a tool that suggests gender of writer
  • Geoffrey reiterates that in this solution (unlike portal) we need to be feedining back during the analysis process..thus, the user will sense that tools are moving in a certain direction towards clarity -- serious tweening.

Action Items

  • Lian to take lead
  • James to support
  • Need to build a recipe to show how to use the portal as a bibliographic repository.
  • Brad to work on GTapor and will present some initial thoughts in two weeks.
