Scenrios for Friedman
FIRST SCENARIO
- Friedman wants to show prominent words from a newspaper corpus
- This is with the goal of teaching students which non-stop words were common from an era
- Friedman submits the articles from varied sources: some in plain text, others from PDF files
- He finds a visualization tools like the Voyeur Tools Cirrus and runs it
- The tool shows a word cloud visualization displaying high frequency words
- Friedman is able to show his students how different authors from different political leanings emphasized certain words
- The students benefit by getting a quick bird’s eye view of the writer’s rhetorical tilt
SECOND SCENARIO
- Friedman inputs a chunk of text for the TAPoware summarizer
- He wants to compare the summarizer’s output against other similar tools
- He prints the results and uses the same text for another summarizer
- He shares copies of both results to his students to help point out errors if any
- Friedman is interested in developing a formalized methodology for the review of these tools
- He hopes to use feedback from peers and students to further shape the development of the tools
- Since a proper review would require a larger number of tests from different sources for statistical significance
- Friedman assigned different texts to his students to test out with tools from the TAPoR site and compare its results
with those of other tools
