Scenrios for Friedman

FIRST SCENARIO

  1. Friedman wants to show prominent words from a newspaper corpus
  2. This is with the goal of teaching students which non-stop words were common from an era
  3. Friedman submits the articles from varied sources: some in plain text, others from PDF files
  4. He finds a visualization tools like the Voyeur Tools Cirrus and runs it
  5. The tool shows a word cloud visualization displaying high frequency words
  6. Friedman is able to show his students how different authors from different political leanings emphasized certain words
  7. The students benefit by getting a quick bird’s eye view of the writer’s rhetorical tilt

SECOND SCENARIO

  1. Friedman inputs a chunk of text for the TAPoware summarizer
  2. He wants to compare the summarizer’s output against other similar tools
  3. He prints the results and uses the same text for another summarizer
  4. He shares copies of both results to his students to help point out errors if any
  5. Friedman is interested in developing a formalized methodology for the review of these tools
  6. He hopes to use feedback from peers and students to further shape the development of the tools
  7. Since a proper review would require a larger number of tests from different sources for statistical significance
  8. Friedman assigned different texts to his students to test out with tools from the TAPoR site and compare its results with those of other tools
