Find text (XML)

TAPoRware tool for finding a word in an XML text and returning a concordance.

For Users:

Overview

Find text tool can find text anywhere in an XML document using the Find Text tool. The search can be narrowed to specified elements or attributes, and all results are returned with a concordance of either words/sentences/lines or surrounding elements. (See overview alone).

Description

Find text searches for a word or pattern in a XML file and returns concordance of the results. This is your basic concording tool. Some of the features of this tool are:
  • You can search an XML text on the Web by providing a URL or you can upload a text. Within the TAPoR portal you can predefine texts that you are studying so that you don't have to reenter the URL.
  • You can search only in a subset of the XML by defining the element(s) that you want to restrict the search to.
  • You can search for words or lists of words or patterns.
  • You can choose how much context you want for each concordance entry.
  • You can get the results in HTML, XML (in our TAPoR XML format), or in HTML that shows the XML tags of our XML format. This last form allows you to select, copy and past the XML even if your browser doesn't support XML. (See description alone).

Feature Help

Source text: Enter the URL of a document for searching or click on the "Choose File" button to upload a file. The URL should begin with "http://", but need not.
Example: http://cheiron.mcmaster.ca/~hyperliste/xmlraw/caresme.xml (See feature help alone).

Subtext limited to: this feature allows you to enter an element to limit the search to. You just need to enter the name of the element not a tag with angle brackets. Please separate multiple tags by a comma. You can also limit a search to elements with an attribute name and/or value.
Example: title (This would limit the search to only <title> elements, assuming they exist in the text.) (See feature help alone).
