Competitions are one way to improve the quality of research tools. Two related competitions are:
- The ACL SIGWAC (Special Interest Group, Web as Corpus) has a CLEANEVAL contest for the best tools for cleaning web pages.
CLEANEVAL is a shared task and competitive evaluation on the topic of cleaning arbitrary web pages, with the goal of preparing web data for use as a corpus, for linguistic and language technology research and development.
- MIREX (Music Information Retrieval Evaluation eXchange) is an annual competition-like event organized by J. Stephen Downie that communally negotiates challenges and then compares tools.
